Introducing Ourselves

Hello, and welcome to 'Wish You Weren't Here?', our new blog about travelling and trips with the added excitement of a few SEN qualities. The hope of this blog is to maybe inspire others to be brave and get out there and explore, but mainly to make going out and having fun a little easier for people by giving them a heads up on the good and the bad of being out in the world.

We have talked about doing a blog like this for ages, but it was a trip to Alton Towers that made us get started. This trip featured some of the best and the worst of Inclusivity. More on that in another post.

The author of this blog is Harley. I am 46. Diagnosed with autism but we reckon there is also a slice of ADHD in there. I am non-binary, and sad that long-ish dreads means that I pass less, but I like them too much to go back to short and spiky just yet.

My Mum made me the dungarees from a Lego duvet cover and I am super proud of them and her.

Kate is my partner. She is not officially diagnosed, but absolutely has ADHD. She does not really want to be in photos and videos.

Shaun is our friend. I have known him for years. He has Cerebral Palsy, and sometimes a potty mouth, particularly on rollercoasters he is riding for the first time. All of us work at our local SEN school.

Shaun is the one in the hat. When he reads this he can tell me who the other guy is. Apologies to the man who is a very nice guy and an excellent rugby player, but I don't often bother with names. I recognise people by their shoes mostly.
